How to achieve your dreams – a simple activity

‘A goal without a plan is just a dream’  Antoine de Saint-Exupery (Author of The Little Prince)

It feels absolutely brilliant to achieve your dreams doesnt it..but how do we get there when they can seem so elusive?

Well, first you need to know exactly what your dream is and second, you need to plan, step by step, how you are going to achieve it.

Here’s a little activity for kids (or grown up’s) to help them reach their dreams.

Activity

Can you think of something you would really like to be able to do or to experience? This needs to be do- able – never ever going to school again and being able to fly on a plastic duck to the moon will NOT work. Nor will living in Buckingham palace and having 20000 billion pounds ( or whatever floats your boat.)

I want you to draw a cloud a big cloud at the top of a sheet of paper  (you can see what I mean below)  Next,  draw a long ladder with about 6 rungs reaching up to the cloud.

Now write down or draw your dream in the cloud. Use lots of detail and really bring it to life. It doesn’t matter if it’s a big dream or a little one.

On the ladder write the steps you need to take to make your dream happen, do these in order, so you know what you need to do next to get closer and closer to it happening,

So for example if your dream is to run a marathon your steps might be

1) Book the marathon

2) Do some research

3) Devise a training plan

4) Get the right  kit

5) Begin your plan

6 Run that race!

So how did it go?

Do you feel clearer about your goal now? Can you really see it? Do you feel you have a plan of action with steps to take you to your goals?

How it works

Visualising (seeing what you want to happen) actually really helps our brain. According to research, visualization works because the neurons in our brains that transmit information see images the same as they do action. So, if you see yourself riding a bike or performing a brilliant guitar solo our AWESOME brains tell our neurons to “perform” the movement and it massively helps! Isn’t that completely amazing.

How to create your own happy

Create your own happy by seeing your goals really clearly, then plotting small, achievable steps that take you to your dream.
